Baby has no sleeping pattern - 9 month old?

my 9 mth old has no sleeping pattern, it's driving me nuts. one day she'll sleep 2 hours for a nap, then another she'll sleep one hour in the morning and half an hour in the afternoon. One day she'll fall asleep at 9pm others it'll be like 10:30 and she wakes up 6 or 7 in the morning. i try putting her to sleep several times, but she fights it, and i only try for 30mins cuz by then she's totally awake. even at night i have done the same routine since she was born and still it's so hard for her to sleep. during the day i will rock her to sleep but at night she'll fall asleep on her own, but it takes forever cuz she'll play and play. i'm just wondering, when and if she'll have some sort of pattern... i feel like she's tired but i can't force sleep on her, i do a lot to get her sleepy, like massage, singing to her, rocking her, making sure she's comfortable and full. so i don't know if there's something i'm not doing. anyone in my shoes???

i would recommend not letting her take such a long nap, an hour nap is good enough. a 2 hour nap is a lil extreme thats probaly why she not regular with bed time. my son just turned a year. he wakes around 7am but 10:30 or so he has a nap which is about an hour, maybe an hour and a half if that, he wakes up has lunch and continues his day. but by 6:30 its tubby time and then his night time bottle and he's in bed by 7pm at the latest. but try to wake her up if she sleeps longer than an hour and have her get used to goin to bed earlier than 9pm. it will take time so dont get frustrated. good luck!

also NO naps after 3pm, try letting her have alot of tummy time on the floor exploring toys and try giving her a night time bath with johnson's bed time bath.
Reply:If she's so active during the day I wouldn't bother imposing a set nap on her. Just let her play about so she's exhausted come bedtime.
Reply:Hi

We were able to get my daughter into a flexible routine from about 4mths onwards which was great, and like another person here said, we also read the Babywise book by G Ezzo. There is some criticism around about the book, but you should use from it what works for you, we really did find that it helped us and we knew exactly when our daughter would be sleeping and how long for, it was a lifesaver. Make sure you get the latest and revised version of it, apparenty the older version was too strict.
Reply:I'm a firm believer of a tight schedule and it's worked wonderfully for us. Noah naps twice a day (he's 14mths). He goes down at 11a and 3p and then he goes to bed at 8p. I am very consistent w/ this routine and he has learned when he is supposed to sleep. I run my errands around his nap time and I make sure that he's fed and bathed just in time for bedtime. Before Noah was born, I read Babywise by Gary Ezzo, it helped me tremendously!
