10 month old baby with fat feet! :)?

My son is almost 11 months old and he already wear a size 5 shoe. He has some stride rites that are extra wide and they are almost too small... I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find some wide shoes that he can wear without hurting his feet.

payless. my son is 5 1/2 months and have very fat feet as well, and he waers like a 2W!

and the shoes are cheap there as well
Reply:It's just my opinion going barefoot is good for kids (and adults), but take it or leave it, no offense or criticism intended. It is indeed your choice as you are his mother, no need to hammer it in or imply I'm not answering your question 'honestly' (whatever you mean by that) Report It

Reply:My son has the same problem. I get his shoes from payless
Reply:My 10-month-old daughter has the exact opposite problem - long, skinny feet. I can hardly find shoes that will stay on her feet!!
Reply:New Balance makes very good XXW width shoes.
Reply:robeez shoes are great, my 9 month old has huge feet, they are so thick. the only pair of tennis shoes she has are a pair of k- swiss they make in wide. the only think with the robeez is they are just leather on the bottom so he probably won't be able to walk outside in them. but they are great because they are so flexible.they have them at finish line or you can get them at babycenter.com
Reply:soft soled shoes are best for learning to walk.

Robeez are the most popular brand, but many places have their own version.... I found these to be great: http://stores.ebay.com/Shoes-Zoo

as far as more structured shoes... I think Stride Rite is the best place, especially for wide feet - my niece has what look like Fred Flintstone feet and she's 7 years old and still gets a lot of her shoes there!
Reply:Robeez!

My daughter has fat feet.. my friend bought her a pair of Robeez and I thought hmm yea whatever.. but now I live by them. I've saved TONS of money because of these shoes and even my hubby who hated to put shoes on her before.. will do it without me even asking :)

Plus they are good for their feet!
Reply:Soft-soled shoes are best no matter how much she's walking. Contrary to popular belief, people of all ages do NOT need support in their shoes. Even walking on hard surfaces going barefoot (or in soft moccasin-like footwear) will not cause flat feet, fallen arches etc, but will instead keep the foot strong.

From "The Influence of Footwear on the Prevalence of Flat Foot," The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, 74B(4), 1992, pp. 525-527.

In Europe and America flat foot is a common reason for attendance at a children's orthopaedic clinic, but in India children are seldom brought for treatment for flat foot. The few children who do attend with this complaint are from affluent urban families and they all wear shoes. In our clinic we have never seen a child from the farming community or from the family of a manual labourer who complained of flat foot.

...

The high concentration of flat foot among six-year-old children who wore shoes as compared with those who did not, implies that the critical age for development of the arch is before six years.

Adults don't need support either, from "Survey in China and India of Feet That Have Never Worn Shoes," One hundred and eighteen of those interviewed were rickshaw coolies. Because these men spend very long hours each day on cobblestone or other hard roads pulling their passengers at a run it was of particular interest to survey them. If anything, their feet were more perfect than the others. All of them, however, gave a history of much pain and swelling of the foot and ankle during the first few days of work as a rickshaw puller. But after either a rest of two days or a week's more work on their feet, the pain and swelling passed away and never returned again. There is no occupation more strenuous for the feet than trotting a rickshaw on hard pavement for many hours each day yet these men do it without pain or pathology.
Reply:I'm not sure where you can get shoes like that without having them specialy made (spending a ton of money) You might try getting him some sandles and if its cold where you are even though its quite tacky put some socks on under them.
Reply:He doesn't need structured shoes yet. My daughter has also been walking well since 9 months old as well and her pediatrician advised that soft-soled shoes like Robeez are all she needs until around 16 months old.

The Robeez shoes come in sizes big enough for 4 year olds so I am sure you can find a size that fit his feet well!

Also, for outside use in the winter check out Stonz. They go over the Robeez well for walking in snow!
