Baby faced, Short, High Pitched Voice, Small Body Frame, How To Look Older?

I'm a 19 year old male. I've never seen my appearance as such a big deal, as a matter of fact I get stopped all the time to get told I am gorgeous or that I look like Zac Efron. Ever since I was little people would tell my parents how pretty I was. So I've always been confident with my looks, but over the past year and a half, after I graduated high school did I start second guessing them.

I'm 5'7 and a 120 pounds, I've got a really tiny frame but broad shoulders. I always get told at work by customers that I look to young to work here (Gap) but I correct them and say "*laughs* yeah but I'm 19" and everytime I go to the clubs with my friends they don't get carded and I do. But that is not what my problem is.

My problem is that I'm going on job inteviews and I feel as if I'm being laughed at, not directly. I feel as soon as my interviewer sees me they already have their minds made up. I'm wearing a fitted navy button up shirt with a charcoal gray v-neck sweater over that and a pair of straight leg black slacks and dress shoes with a nice belt, my hair is flatironed (ex: Zac Efron) so my question is: how do I dress older?

I know that its about "selling" myself to the employer and convincing them I'm the right one, but its hard to when you can tell what they are thinking

Grow some facial hair.
Reply:Lose the school boy sweater first and replace it with a tweed blazer that is dark with broad shoulders and wide lapels and put on a tie. Not crazy about straight leg slacks either as they will make you look boney, go with something pleated that will hang from your waist

My suggestion is to go to Mens Wearhouse

They have the best service anywhere and they will hook you up with some style choices

Start working out and put some bulk on the frame and don't be in such a hurry to look old

More people want to turn the clock back than forward
Reply:i wouldn't worry about it too much mate. the people that are interviewing you are not looking at how old you appear. but how your personality is. I've looked young all my life and at 27 I'm still getting asked for i.d.when going to clubs. just think when your 40 you'll be the George clooney of your town. embrace it mate.
Reply:I had to deal with the same issue. You'll eventually get over this knowing that no matter what you do, you'll look young. I look the same as when I was 17yrs old. I am 28yrs old now. If you do anything to "look older" you will be doing just that... a young guy trying to "look older", so try to avoid that. Be upfront on your age, and in fact, make it known you are happy to look young (even if you don't feel it now, you will later in life, trust me!). Work mostly on how you communicate, that's the most important part. You seem to know how to type rather well, so if you can convey what you are looking for in a career rather than just a job, you are more interesting to potential employers. It's not about looking older, it's coming across as older, period. Try not to state your age, when they say you look young to work there, just simply state "yes, I get that a lot, thank you!" or "wow, you think so? I didn't even notice!"; sound basically oblivious to looking young so they stop picking at it. That works best. Hope that helps.
Reply:You dont have to look the part you have to act the part...start off I know Im young but I assure you I have the ability to....and then go from there
Reply:I'm 35 and I remember experiencing something similar when was near your age. I had a very strong and distinctive sense of style. I would dress for job interviews looking like a pirate wench or a wicked witch. I felt good and therefore expected to be accepted. Obviously I never was. Lucky for you you're not as out of touch with reality as I was, but are you dressing like a fashionable 19 year old male? I took a class once that taught interview skills, etc. and the subject of dress did come up. We were taught to dress as plain and conservatively as possible. Example: neutral dress shirt, slacks, not jeans or Dickies, maybe a tie, and shoes that don't draw attention to themselves. Hair is so important. I know the Zac Efron do is very trendy right now, but you might try a side part or just comb it all back. I know its a boring regular man's hairstyle, but as an adult the Zac style looks a little like bed hair... The idea was that if your clothes were not attention grabbing then the interviewer would be paying more attention to your answers than your outfit. Especially if you're a cutie-pie. The trendy hair and clothes just might leave the impression of young and fun when you're going for responsible and dependable. If drabbing your look down too much makes you too uncomfortable to interview well, then don't set yourself up. Shoot for jobs where you can be your young, cute self and worry about looking older when you're older.
Reply:well maintained facial hair can make you look older and the clothes you wear and how you hold yourself also make a big difference. good luck
Reply:a pair of wrangler jeans, dont shower so much to be a clean freak, no moree grafix teeshirts, wear polos
Reply:Your just developing late. a lot of boys don't fully develop till there 25. Be patient, your going to look look really good at 30
Reply:Wheel around in a wheel chair. Thats the only advice I can give you to help you look older.
Reply:well i would it depends on the job you are going for anything more casual (ex. your current job) i wouldnt really over do it a tee shirt and jeans maybe a nice pair of jeans though and an appriote shirt (think golf tee shirt the collard ones with a few stripes across the chest, get what i'm saying?) also if you want to look older i hate to say it because girls are going to be way more into long hair but not to long im guessing your current length is just perfect since it can be flat ironed, however a shorter cut will look more mid to late twenties. i wouldnt reccommend beard and mustache because that could take a while and you will just look scruffy until then. for a job interview of the formal variety i would say no to straight leg pants they are very young and very in. go a slight flair but not like anything crazy just a little. try ironing a crease down the front and where a dress coat over a button up a tie would probably be over doing it though. however i would like to point out anything that is making you change who you are and making you feel less of yourself is really not worth it and you should go with something that you can enjoy doing and wont have to go out of your way to accomplish. a well paying job that fits your personality would be much more enjoyable and most abercrombie interviews dont include dress pants and certainly not a hair cut!
Reply:do you have any pictures?
Reply:Grow a goatee and mustache?
Reply:I'm thinking a blazer should work for you.

Use words/sentences that give the impression you're a bit older. Like..."I researched and found that'...and, "after weighing the alternatives"....and buzz words like "I try thinking outside the box"...Don't say things like "like" or "whatever" (oops I said it).

Wear non-tight fitting dress pants and keep your hands in your pockets. Nod your head when the interviewers talking to you and make eye contact. When he shakes your hand, make sure yours is firm...not too firm.

Use fake outs: When you walk in an interviewers office quickly glance around and act like you're interested in something in his office. And compliment it. If you can relate to the employer on a more personal level, you get extra point. Say something like, you play golf...so do I. Are those your kids, they're cute...got a few of my own (That one ages you quick).
