What if the baby eats silica?

from the packets that come in the shoes, on accident??

What will happen??

What should I do??

What if the baby eats silica?
I'm sorry people are such asses on here! Here's the truth, hon, but call Poison Control, in any case.

The West Virginia Poison Center receives numerous calls concerning the ingestion of silica gel packets. A mother calls, concerned because her 10-month old daughter has just swallowed a packet, or a concerned pet owner calls in fear for her rottweiler who has just chewed a packet. In fact, silica gel is non-toxic, and will not poison your child or pet. These packets can be a choking hazard, however.
Reply:go to the ER..... call a nurse..... I don't know if you want to wait for the baby to try and pass a packet of silicone beads.....
Reply:Stop feeding him silica packets and call the poison control hotline. Furthermore don't you have enough shoes already. Does anyone really need three pairs of pink thigh high boots?
Reply:I'm sure it is not good. Definitly call poison controll or 911. See what they say.
Reply:Call an ambulance NOW
Reply:GO TO THE HOSPITAL!
Reply:ER now!
Reply:Why do people put completely uneducated responses on here. I know I am a damn good mother and my daughter, at her early stages of crawling, decided to try out this same stuff. I calle poison control and they said she would be fine, just to rinse her mouth with some water to rid her mouth of the taste. No sense in a needless ER bill, cause god knows if we have children, these bills are the last thing we need!!!

dont listen to a bunch of idiots!!
Reply:don't worry its non toxic....only a choking hazard.... funny enough u can actually buy it at health food stores as some kind of supplament(i think its a rip off)
Reply:In all other respects, silicon dioxide is inert and harmless. When silica is ingested orally, it passes unchanged through the gastrointestinal tract, exiting in the feces, leaving no trace behind. Small pieces of silicon dioxide are equally harmless, as long as they are not large enough to mechanically obstruct the GI tract, or jagged enough to lacerate its lining. Silicon dixoide produces no fumes and is insoluble in vivo. It is indigestible, with zero nutritional value and zero toxicity..............I dont know if it has the same effect on newborns
Reply:Thompson says one of the most common calls the center receives is from panicked parents whose children have swallowed silica gel, a common desiccant used in food packaging, camera bags and shoe boxes. Ironically, the small packets, often emblazoned with a skull-and-crossbones, are harmless.

"You might eat a lot of them and it probably wouldn't hurt you. It's basically sterilized sand," Thompson says, "although ingesting any non-food substance is never recommended."
Reply:How the hell does a baby get hold of silica? Where are the RESPOSIBLE adults? That baby needs to go to the ER Pronto and whomever is supposedly responsible for this child needs some parenting skills.
Reply:They will Die.
