I broke my baby toe over two weeks ago. How long should the pain and swelling last?

It is no longer purple but red. I cannot wear shoes, just flip flops.

I broke my baby toe over two weeks ago. How long should the pain and swelling last?
Broken bones take 6 weeks to fully heal.
Reply:I've also broken my baby toe - if the pain continues, check with the doctor to make sure it's not infected. My pain lasted around three weeks, but you might need to make sure something more serious isn't going on.

But still, flip flops aren't a bad idea - you want to make sure that you don't continue to aggrivate the injury with confining shoes.

Contrary to what others have posted, trust me - it is not normal to take 6 weeks for a pinky toe to heal - mine wasn't near that long. It sucks, but it's not a femur - check with your doc in a week or so if you're not starting to feel much better.
Reply:Longer than you would want. Unfortunately, even after it heals, it may take a year for you to feel confidence with it. You will favor it and over protect it. Give it another week or two, depending on how bad it's broken.

Sorry to hear that! I wish you well.
Reply:It depends on how badly you broke it. I broke my toe closet to my big toe and had to wear flip-flops for a month in October, and crammed my swollen toe into my biggest pair of tennis shoes for school. Mine hurt for two months, and the swelling has never gone completely down, though it was less noticable after two weeks and back to as small as it is now after a month.
Reply:it might last for a month just like my moms

I want a baby now, how can I remain patient for three more years?

My husband and I have been together for almost 7 years now. (5 dating, and over 1 married). We have decided we want a larger family (4-6 depending..) However we moved out of state for school away from family and friends. We have three more years here. I'm 23 and if we wait to have children, I'll be 27 or so when we have our first. This would be fine but I do not want to have children after 35 or so. Hopefully you can see why I want to start now, and why I can't. So what would you do in my shoes?

I want a baby now, how can I remain patient for three more years?
What I have learned is there is NEVER a right time to have children. You can only prepare the road ahead for what is in the present. There are so many factors in this...I can see you both thinking a lot of "what if"'s and that's only natural. It took my husband about a year and a half to finally be ready because I told him, if you truly wanted children the way you say so then we would just do it.

Here's the thing: People are very adaptable to surroundings and to change. The pregnancy is 8-9 months for a reason. It takes time to plan and change things. And, not to mention, there is an almighty God watching over us and taking care of us...so instead of saying the what-if's, start talking about the what is.

He needs to be ready also, but he also needs to listen to your hearts desire and create a compromising goal that both of you can handle.

Hints on being patient: take up some hobbies and learn to enjoy the time you have with your husband. Travel. Get in shape. Start healthy eating habits. Start preparing your way to be pregnant without letting it comsume you.

And miracles happen...if you got pregnant tomorrow without planning it, then what?

Anyway, it's just because I know several people who follow their hearts and have a family. One couple I admire have 3 kids and made a decision to put the husband back into an expensive 5 year schooling program. She stays home, he works a great job while balancing school. And it works. We just adapt.

Hope this helps! :)
Reply:Well, I definately would wait until my husband is ready.
Reply:I'd wait. a baby is not a novelty item you should be near friends and family for that extra support. 35 is not old to be having children these days, my sister had her first at 38.
Reply:just be patient. when the right time come around it will, have time to travel and enjoy one another.

me and my husband said three years. look at it this way: try to get debt paid off as much as possible, like we are. because when a baby comes its just not you and him any more. its baby time and on top of that baby gets sick go to doctor that's another bill on top of debt. say you get pregnant and then you have to go on bed rest, what are you going to do if you have a lot of debt that you have not tried to pay off or Evan tried to pay down? I want less debt so that if i do have a baby and say a car accident happened if i am not so

far in debt, i can shell out $500.00 to get my car fix. think about the big picture and pray about it, say you want to just get up and go out of town you and your husband. what are you going to do with a baby that wakes up every second and cries and you don't know whats wrong. having a baby is a beautiful thing, but makes sure your ready. i want them to but right know i am only 22 years old and i want to enjoy just a little of my marriage before i think of children.
Reply:What would i do? Well, Its been 4 yrs of trying to get pregnant for me. So, sometimes you just have to sit back and wait it out. If it happens, it happens. If you're worried about have a baby away from you family, because of support and physical help issues, maybe you should wait....
Reply:It definitely has to be a joint decision but I can't lie....I would be working my husband to get him to change his mind if I wanted a baby that badly :)

Would you stay at your job if you were in my shoes?

I hate my boss. She is very rude and conescending when she talks to people, including myself. I am a very responsible and hard working employee, but she doesn't utilize any of my strengths (tries to do everything herself). The outcome is I am bored and not challenged and I actually liked my job when I had a different boss leading me. I've tried to talk to her but she is too full of herself and doesn't listen, just interrupts. I work for a large bank and could get another position within the bank, but I like my job and would prefer to move to a higher paying financial institution, in my same field. Here's the ticker....I'm pregnant and need to stay with the company in order to receive disability benefits during my maternity leave. In order to qualify for this you need to be on the job for one year. So my question is, do I post for something else in the bank until I have the baby or do I suck it up and stay until I can make the transition after the baby comes?

Would you stay at your job if you were in my shoes?
Have you tried letting your boss' boss know? Like, who is her manager? What about HR?

If it were me, I'd stay because when you go to another place, how will you explain why you left that field if you do in fact like it? Plus, be sure to remain positive because you don't want to burn any bridges...what if you don't find something else while you're on leave? You will want to ensure you have a job to come back to.
Reply:suck up, stay and wait until after the baby to make your move, you have much to do and plan for in the upcoming weeks, you have enough to concentrate on now, March seems so far away, but just count the weeks, there aren't really that many, good luck with your baby, hope all goes well!!
Reply:I would stay were you're at for now. You need the benefits, you are going to have your hands full with a new baby,in six months the hole world could change. Your boss could be gone. Your hormone will be crazy and your out look on life will

be completely different. P.S. congratulations
Reply:get something else in the bank you don't need the stress
Reply:Why don't you post and just go for the interviews to see if the position interests you? Now, by doing that- will that intensify the poor relationship with your current boss? Definitely stay with the company so you won't lose your benefits. Banking is a customer service industry. Hang in there- eventually something is going to happen to your rude boss, especially if she's rude to customers/ clients. What goes around, comes around. Good luck.
Reply:What size shoe do you take
Reply:Well since you will like being able to take maternity leave I would stick it out. My boss is also very rude and I am looking for something else. He actually picked on my weight and looks the other day. I am not fat and I think he was just trying to undermine me.

Stick it out so you don't lose the time off with your baby and after that I would look for another job or transfer. That time with your baby will make you happy.

You need to be happy and satisfied with your job/boss is what it comes down to and having a boss like her that you cannot talk to is not the right job.

Take care of yourself.

Anna
Reply:I'm speaking from personal experience here...in fact, I think I got pregnant the second time around faster than I would have normally because I hated my boss so much!

I would suck it up until the baby is born...then use your maternity leave to interview for new jobs. It's a great time to do it because you don't have to worry about people asking where you are at work, and at the same time, while you are on maternity leave, they may offer you a different job in your same bank. March really isn't that far away.

It's hard to start a new job (even within your same bank) while pregnant because you may start to feel tired and not be giving your best...and they won't appreciate what you can really do.

In my case, I ended up getting a whole new job while on leave and it was so nice to be able to just call up and resign from the old one!!

Good luck!
Reply:March is a long way off, I would try to get placed in another position within the bank. Then after, when you are ready to return to work, look for a position in another financial institution. The pregnancy is probably affecting your patience as well, try to keep your cool! Good Luck!
Reply:Well, I totally feel you. I, myself am in a similar position. I hate my job and though my boss is a nice person she's not a very good manager. I don't have much choice of finding another position here until I get my degree and if I were to find another job outside my company they may not pay for my school, be as flexible about leaving a little early for school, etc. If you can keep your insurance/benefits moving to another position in the bank, which you should be able to, then I would go for it unless you think you would be just as unhappy. Also, I don't know about banks but some companies you get benefits as of the day you start (mine does this anyway) so you could look around at other jobs and inquire about benefits at interviews, it doesn't hurt to see what your options are. As for me I am pretty much stuck in this rut until I finish school, which is years away since I can only take so many classes.......because of this job--which is also paying for my classes but stressing me at the same time. Good luck!
Reply:i'm a size 9 1/2 i would stay at my job if the shoe fits.
Reply:i would stick it out for now ... if you post for something else then she may make life even harder for you ! hang in there do not let her bring you down you have BETTER things to look forward to your bub just keep thinking of that .. get what you need from them benifits etc then move on after that or post another position for if and when you come back .. do not tell her you are expecting until you have to !

What do you think of the Pediped shoes?

If you have bought them for your baby? Do you like them?

What do you think of the Pediped shoes?
My daughter has numerous pairs, since she was a baby. I LOVE them. The fact that they are so darn cute, plus they always stay on her feet. They are soft soled shoes, which is good for development. The are a bit pricey though. I did sell the ones she outgrew on ebay to recoup some of the money (and buy her new ones!)

She is 14 months old and still wearing them.

edit: Target DOES NOT make a cheaper version of pedipeds...they only make the cheaper version of Roobez, which are next to the baby socks
Reply:I've tried the Robeez, the Target copy of Robeez (not sure what their brand name is) and the Pedipeds. I've never seen the Target brand of Pedipeds, maybe they're just not offered in my area. I have to say I like the Pedipeds best. They're around $35, but they last for 6 months. Actually, they last longer than that, but they are too small for dd1 now. I'm saving them for dd2.
Reply:I think they're cute, but overpriced. Target makes ones that are the exact same thing, only they're much cheaper.

*EDIT* I checked the website, and can't find them - sorry. They were with the baby socks, and they were really good quality for "cheapo" Target brand.
Reply:they're okay !

Wide feet after baby?

its been 9 months and my feet still seam wider then before, will this ever go away i am getting sick of my dress shoes not fitting. is there anything i can do to make it go away?

Wide feet after baby?
This is probably not what you want to hear, but my feet never went back to the size they were before my first daughter (who is 3yrs. old now).
Reply:I went from a 9 to a 10. I am finally parting with all of my pre-pregnancy shoes!
Reply:My baby is 19 months old, and I've finally started replacing all my old shoes. My feet are bigger all over, and they're super-wide now. Sorry.
Reply:the reason your feet seem wider is because they are. during pregnancy your body produces hormone relaxin to make it easier for your hips to open up to let baby through. it relaxes your ligaments all over your body feet included. so go shoe shopping dont complain yay for new shoes
Reply:Have you lost all of your baby weight yet? I found that when I lose some weight, my feet lose it too. Although, my feet have definetely gotten bigger since I had kids. Before kids I wore a 7 and now I'm between 8 and 8 1/2. It might be time to get new shoes.
Reply:It's very common for women's feet to get bigger after having a child. I don't understand why but it has happened to me and ALL of my friends, wierd!
Reply:sorry to say, it doesnt go away unfortunately. my feet got wider as well after my 1st child. gotta love the 'wonderful' changes pregnancy does to your body.
Reply:Mine did the same thing, don't wait any longer, spoil yourself a little and get some new, bigger shoes. Your feet will thank you.
Reply:Pregnancy changes us in so many ways... I thought I'd suffered every indignity and then I discovered my shoes no longer fitted.

After months of waddling around in flat shoes, I lost all the weight, got dressed up, tried on a pair of heels and... felt like an elephant again.

Use it as an excuse to go shopping, sure... but I'm still saddened by it.

What if the baby eats silica?

from the packets that come in the shoes, on accident??

What will happen??

What should I do??

What if the baby eats silica?
I'm sorry people are such asses on here! Here's the truth, hon, but call Poison Control, in any case.

The West Virginia Poison Center receives numerous calls concerning the ingestion of silica gel packets. A mother calls, concerned because her 10-month old daughter has just swallowed a packet, or a concerned pet owner calls in fear for her rottweiler who has just chewed a packet. In fact, silica gel is non-toxic, and will not poison your child or pet. These packets can be a choking hazard, however.
Reply:go to the ER..... call a nurse..... I don't know if you want to wait for the baby to try and pass a packet of silicone beads.....
Reply:Stop feeding him silica packets and call the poison control hotline. Furthermore don't you have enough shoes already. Does anyone really need three pairs of pink thigh high boots?
Reply:I'm sure it is not good. Definitly call poison controll or 911. See what they say.
Reply:Call an ambulance NOW
Reply:GO TO THE HOSPITAL!
Reply:ER now!
Reply:Why do people put completely uneducated responses on here. I know I am a damn good mother and my daughter, at her early stages of crawling, decided to try out this same stuff. I calle poison control and they said she would be fine, just to rinse her mouth with some water to rid her mouth of the taste. No sense in a needless ER bill, cause god knows if we have children, these bills are the last thing we need!!!

dont listen to a bunch of idiots!!
Reply:don't worry its non toxic....only a choking hazard.... funny enough u can actually buy it at health food stores as some kind of supplament(i think its a rip off)
Reply:In all other respects, silicon dioxide is inert and harmless. When silica is ingested orally, it passes unchanged through the gastrointestinal tract, exiting in the feces, leaving no trace behind. Small pieces of silicon dioxide are equally harmless, as long as they are not large enough to mechanically obstruct the GI tract, or jagged enough to lacerate its lining. Silicon dixoide produces no fumes and is insoluble in vivo. It is indigestible, with zero nutritional value and zero toxicity..............I dont know if it has the same effect on newborns
Reply:Thompson says one of the most common calls the center receives is from panicked parents whose children have swallowed silica gel, a common desiccant used in food packaging, camera bags and shoe boxes. Ironically, the small packets, often emblazoned with a skull-and-crossbones, are harmless.

"You might eat a lot of them and it probably wouldn't hurt you. It's basically sterilized sand," Thompson says, "although ingesting any non-food substance is never recommended."
Reply:How the hell does a baby get hold of silica? Where are the RESPOSIBLE adults? That baby needs to go to the ER Pronto and whomever is supposedly responsible for this child needs some parenting skills.
Reply:They will Die.
