example
6-7 pairs of outfits
5-pairs socks
2-pair shoes ect
Clothes wise how many things should i buy for my baby?
Quantity depends largely on how often you anticipate being able to do laundry. You may also find that your needs are not what you anticipate -- for example, I lucked out in that neither of my babies spit up. Ever. So while many moms of newborns found themselves changing their babies several times a day I was never in that position (unless I chose to be, of course).
Another factor is weather/time of year.
All that being said:
Your baby will live primarily in onesies and footed "sleepers" (they go by many names, but that's the one that comes to mind), so you should have several of those. Even if you plan to do laundry every day plan on having a few sleepers, or gowns, or whatever your baby will sleep in, since you don't know what will happen in terms of spit ups and leaks in the middle of the night.
Outfits are really a matter of your own choice. They're not by any means "necessary." When you take your little baby out in a carrier, stroller, etc. it's going to be in the same clothes it would wear inside, more or less. You and I wouldn't go out in our pajamas, I'll grant you that, but babies do. If you want outfits for visitors and such that makes sense, but no need to go crazy -- a couple of outfits will do.
Socks -- I'd get a few pair to start with but not many. One of the "challenges" of new motherhood is determining which socks your baby is least likely to pull off, or have fall off.
Shoes -- babies don't wear shoes, but "crib shoes" are appropriate if you want to do that with one of the "outfits." But barring a particular desire on your part? No shoes.
Were I in your shoes I would probably buy about 8 onesies, half as many sleepers, a few pairs of socks or booties, 2 sleep sacks, a few swaddling items (or, frankly, 1 "Miracle Blanket" -- they are hands down the best), and a few hats (newborns need hats, no matter the time of year -- most body heat is lost from the head and, on top of that, most babies have little or no hair). In my experience when your baby is born people will buy you all sorts of cute little baby clothes -- and that's where your outfits will likely come from. I found that I got to buy the "boring" things -- onesies, basically -- and other than that there was precious little I had to buy for several months. (Although, if you want a special "coming home from the hospital outfit," you should plan that yourself). If you find you need more you can always get more. You'll see whether your baby spits up 10 times a day or not at all. Whether s/he leaks a lot, or not. Whether that brand of socks stays on or is useless. Etc. You'll also see what size is needed -- they grow *fast*. Speaking of which, pay attention to that when you buy clothes. Buying onesies? Buy a couple of newborn and a couple of "0-3 months." (And with diapers, do not stock up on newborn size!)
Also, while it's not technically clothing, do buy several bibs -- if they don't need them immediately they will eventually. And burp cloths, ditto (for those, forego the expensive "burp cloths: -- what I found and still find the most useful are prettily patterns cloth diapers, usually sold in packages of 6 or 12, they're all cotton, absorbent, and useful for everything! On the other hand the so-called "receiving blankets" are pretty useless as they are too small to be useful for swaddling -- and my kids were only 5 pounds when they finally came home!)
Sorry for my rambling. Been trying to "answer" a little here, a little here, during my 14 month old twins' dinner!
Congrats and good luck.
Reply:I love baby clothes! However, if at all possible, don't buy too many outfits sized 0-3 months. They grow out of them so fast. Try sizes 3-6 months. You may only need one outfit in size 0-3 if you plan to have your son/daughter's photo taken. If you plan to deliver in a hospital, a nurse will photograph your new baby laying down on his/her back with a camera up above. Otherwise, I would purchase about a week's worth (7-10) onsies, 5 nightgowns or layettes, plenty of socks or booties(7-10 pairs), and shoes if you would like. Try something universal, like a pair of black or tan "boots" for a boy or black or white "dress shoes" or "sandals" for a girl.
These are all of course the ones with the soft pads at the bottom. I wish you the best! CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:until they are sitting up and stuff it's easier to have them just in one piece bodysuits. I would have AT LEAST 7 of each size because you will be amazed at how quickly you go through them, it feels like u r always washing.......don't worry about shoes, it really is a waste of money until they are walking. They might look cute, but r really uneccesary. 3-4 pairs of socks should be plenty. They grow out of them so quickly you don't want too much or you will have heaps of things they never even get a chance to wear.
Reply:Lot's of onesies, no more than 10 outfits for DR visits or family outings. Lot's of socks and bibs
Reply:No shoes.. they don't like them nor are they easy to keep on.
Socks not to many they normally wear lots of clothes that have feet on them.
A few outfits that you really like but not to many they grow so fast.
Lots of bibs!
And several oneies.
Reply:how old is your baby??????????
Reply:Lots of sock, LOTS of sleepers and onesies, lots of burp cloths and bibs, i would say no more then 15 outfits, lots of receiving blankets!!!!
Focus on onesies, and sleepers, socks, burp cloths and blankets! those are the thing you will use the most! those things get dirty often so you need to have plenty on hand! have enough to go about three days with out laundry! with a new born its hard to get laundry done!
BTW.. as far as shoes go.. no shoes. Babies don't like them. I bough both of my kids size two Nike's.. and both of them HATED them. So they were only worn one or twice! I kept them for keepsake, and mainly bought them for that reason.... so if you have the spare cash go ahead.
Good luck
Reply:Newborns don't wear shoes. They shouldn't start wearing shoes until they are walking. Socks or "booties" are best, "outfits" what for? All they do is eat sleep and poop as newborns and you don't need to be dressed up to do that. Lots of tee shirts, lots of onsies are all you really need with infants. Save the "dress up" for later on.
Reply:Thats probably a good estimate because if you buy any more than that it will just be a waste of money , babies grow out of their clothes very, very , fast!!
Reply:Before my son was born I only had about 8-10 sleepers and 8-10 undershirts. Since I didn't know the sex of my child the sleepers I had were all neutral - white, beige, green etc. I wanted to wait until after the baby was born to either buy boy or girl outfits. In the first few months, your baby will grow out of clothes so fast that it will seem as if they were only in the clothes for 3-4 weeks! Also, almost everyone that comes to visit your new baby will bring an outfit....and if you are having a "baby shower" you may get a some great clothes there!
Reply:umm....I remember reading what to expect when your expecting, and the number of things they said we needed looked small to me. I liked having more than i needed just in case things got dirty. Clothing wise...5-7 of everything ( onesies, socks, outfits, pjs, ect.) is more than enough. Just depends on how often you wash. You dont have to worry about shoes for a few months. Congrats.
